SMT Draupadi Murmu was born on 20th June, 1958 at a Santal Tribal Family in Uparbeda village in Mayurbhanj District in Odisha. Her family also has a political background as her father as well as her grandfather were elected as a sarpanch of their village for continuous 20 years. She married a banker Sh. Shyam Charan Murmu. They had 3 children, a daughter and 2 sons but unfortunately she lost her husband in 2024 and both her sons in the span of 4 years.

Our honorable President SMT Draupadi Murmu started her career as a teacher in the government school in her home district. Later She worked at the Shri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Institute as an assistant professor. Further worked as a junior assistant at the irrigation department of Government of Odisha. After that she entered politics in 1997, and joined Bharatiya janata party. She was first elected as the councilor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat.
